We believe that the "reinvestment" in justice (the money saved by reducing prison use) should go to programs and policies that heal traumatized communities and prevent members from feeling like crime is the only option. It should not go back into the same system of control. VOTE prevents sheriffs, prison guards, and district attorneys from expanding their monitoring under the banner of "rehabilitation and reentry" by holding them accountable to our own Principles of Reentry. We model true reentry by helping members secure their civil and human rights.
