policy associate, voters organized to educate
Kelly Garrett has been an active advocate for Louisiana criminal justice reform for the past four years, working on campaigns such as parole eligibility, juvenile justice, and restoring voting rights. Her most recent work as Lafayette’s Regional Director with the 2018 Unanimous Jury Coalition helped to bring an overwhelming victory in requiring juries to be unanimous in trials.
Kelly is a recipient of the 2017 League of Women Voters-Lafayette “Safeguarding Democracy Award.” She's also a graduate of the 2017 inaugural class of Emerge Louisiana, the state’s premier organization for recruiting and training Democratic women to run for political office. Her individual perseverance, determination, and vulnerability is what she hopes to use to empower others to becoming a part of necessary change.
Kelly is a graduate of LSU with an extensive corporate background in media. Prior to coming to Voters Organized to Educate as our Policy Associate, she was a member of VOTE as well as various other criminal and social justice organizations.
