CHAPTER ORGANIZER: shreveport
Felicia Smith is one of many people who received clemency from former President Obama. She was released from prison on January 19, 2018, and as soon as she got back home she enrolled in school and attempted to find secure housing for her and her daughter. Her landlord, however, terminated the lease after finding out about her prior conviction. Though she has stable housing once again and is getting back on her feet with the support of a growing community, Felicia has a fire in her gut and is eager for change. As VOTE's Chapter Organizer for the Shreveport area, she's bringing that passion and commitment right to us. “Showing my daughter that her mother overcomes obstacles and is not defined by one single instance means everything to me," she says. "My fight for my right to vote is part of that." The Shreveport chapter of VOTE meets the third Saturday of every month from 1 to 3pm at the Highland Center, 520 Olive St, Shreveport, LA 71104.
