Need Your Record Cleared?
The Justice and Accountability Center of Louisiana (JAC) are Louisiana's expungement experts. Check out their website's expungement section for help and how-to resources to get started on your expungement process. They also partner with local organizations and defense lawyers to host regular free clinics, where you can get legal advice and begin your expungement process. Currently, those clinics are just in New Orleans and occasionally Baton Rouge. Visit their calendar to check out your local clinic.
From 2008-2013, VOTE worked with a number of local organizations (Safe Streets, Orleans Public Defenders, and Critical Resistance New Orleans) to host annual Expungement Clinics for people in the New Orleans area that carried arrest records that hampered their ability to access fair housing, employment and healthcare. For years, VOTE took the lead in completing the arduous process of assisting over 200 individuals through the legal maze of obtaining an expungement. In 2013, our community welcomed the Justice and Accountability Center into the mix and now refers those who are looking for expungements to their excellent team.
As part of our ongoing work advocating for better access to employment, education, housing and public resources for FIPs, VOTE continues to work with JAC and other organizations to advocate for more accessible and effective expungement laws.
